Obsidian is a volcanic glass formed in cooling lava. This variety is named for the colorful patterns, which are results of the minerals present at the time of formation. Just like us, the imperfections give this stone its beauty and character. Historical metaphysical uses for obsidian include protection and increasing awareness.
